Boots Health and Beauty is a bi-monthly magazine that can be picked up in their stores for £1 or for free if you are a Boots Advantage Card holder. It contains categories on health, self, beauty and well-being with lots of images of products and details of how much they cost.
Their digital version has the advantage of allowing you to add products that you read about in the articles straight into your basket to buy. It also contains interactive style guides where you can enter your details, e.g. whether you hair is straight or curly, long or short and then it provides you with a new hairstyle to try out. These activities cannot be accessed by reading a printed version.
One way they could improve their digital version of the magazine would be to have a menu where they can see the categories of articles and see all the features in a list. In the printed version, like most other magazines, there is a contents page where readers can quickly access the articles they have an interest in. Having a similar contents section online would make the articles more accessible to the readers.
Another way they could improve is by adding more videos. Being online means you aren’t restricted to photos only and they could there for share videos such as makeup tutorials, hairstyle guides and verbal reviews of products. This makes the magazine a lot more visual and would be a quick way for people to learn new skills, rather than simply seeing an image in the printed version.
